OSHA/DOT/HAZMAT GUIDELINES & COMPLIANCE
Each facility has to have a minimum of 1 person certified to handle and ship HAZMAT materials.

The new laws will need to be complied with by June 2015. Non HAZMAT products do not apply.
The U/N Symbol must be on every HAZMAT packaging along with the contents of that package or container.
Pails will need to have a dial type of symbol designating what the contents are on both the pail and lid.
The U/N Symbol needs to be on every HAZMAT identifying this content on the pail.
Drums will also need the U/N Symbol imprinted and the list of content.
Boxes will need to have complete packaging instructions and proper HAZMAT labels should the contents need identifying. They need to be U/N boxes.
CLOSING CONTAINERS:
As mentioned, pails will need the U/N Symbol on both top and bottom. The pail lid will either need to be fastened with a lidder press or a steel shot dead hammer may be used.
Drums needs the U/N imprint and the Bung Caps need to be fastened to 20 foot lbs for transport. (This can vary with each manufacture of drums)
Tote caps need to be torqued to 75 foot lbs. prior to transport. Totes will also need to be pressure tested to be reused for transport.(This also will vary with different manufacturers)
Any spills during shipment will require HAZMAT to be called. That instance can prove to be costly.
Toxic chemicals cannot be transported with medical or food products. No more than 1000 lbs. of HAZMAT materials may be transported by vehicle unless you obtain a D.O.T. certification. Placards need to be display on the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle identifying when carrying HAZMAT material.
IGNORANCE is not acceptable and nobody is exempt.
Civil fine $275.00-$50,000 per day.
Criminal violations with full disregard can be fined up to $50,000 per day plus $250,000 per corporation AND 5 YEARS jail time.
Once the products is received as compliant and signed off, the receiver will answer if going forward if a HAZMAT crime has been committed.
Flammable is a danger to ignite with a spark or open flame. (Below 140 degrees)
Combustible is a property which will ignite a material over 140 degrees.
Labels must have HAZMAT information and be made from vinyl. Flammable and toxic diamond labels must be located with 6″ from label.
